Aaron Quarterman, Jr.

Aaron Quarterman, Jr. has been playing the saxophone since the age of nine. From his first solo performance, Aaron knew that this is what he wanted to do with his life.

Born in Bensalem, PA, Aaron first started with alto saxophone in 4th grade, switching to tenor saxophone In the 7th grade. He has been blessed to study with great mentors. He studied with the late Mr. James Kilik of Settlement Music School. Early on, Aaron was inspired after listening to Charlie Parker. As he got older, he started to listen to jazz masters: James Carter, John Coltrane, Lenny Pickett and Michael Brecker. Quarterman participated in Jazz Band throughout High School., competing in various competitions as a featured soloist. He was awarded Outstanding Soloist for the Cavalcade High School Jazz Competition in 2013. In the same year, Aaron was also selected to play in the Bucks County Music Educators Association County Honors Band.

Aaron earned an Associate Degree in Music at Bucks County Community College, where he was part of the Jazz Orchestra as a featured soloist. Working under Mr. Leonard Pierro and Mr. Jeff Baumeister, Aaron continued to develop his skills on the tenor saxophone.

Quarterman has developed a unique, versatile and precise style of playing. Currently at age 25, he has picked up soprano saxophone; he also plays alto saxophone frequently. He is also becoming a multi-instrumentalist, and plays flute, clarinet, piccolo, piano and trumpet, flugelhorn and trombone.

In October 2017, Quarterman won first place at the 1st Annual Sax and the City Competition and Showcase in West Philadelphia. He performs throughout the greater Philadelphia region at venues such as The Temperance House, Philadelphia Clef Club, South Restaurant and Chris’ Jazz Cafe. He was a scholar for the Marion Anderson Historical Society in 2017.

Aaron earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies/Performance in 2018. Mentors have included: Mr. Ben Schachter at Temple; and Saturday Night Live Musical Director, Mr. Lenny Pickett. Aaron released his first Album “Funk Train” titled by his original song, one of many albums to come for Aaron Quarterman, Jr.
